First UK Trip
Driving at over 160 km/hour sometimes blows out thin air out of your mind. I was a bit nervous for my first flight but did not want to think about it. I guess I don’t like planes that much, for someone who wanted to be a fighter pilot what a paradox…
I reached the airport that saturday morning only to know that the flight has been delayed by more that 4 hours. Hmmm starting well; I wish I had checked the flight details before leaving home, this would allowed me another 2 hours sleep. Well, at least in Club World you can have the VIP lounge and guess what, there’s food :) (When you are hungry, sandwiches are better than nothing). The hours were long and I still was not realising that I was going to fly for the first time in a few minutes. As we boarded the 767, a charming young lady greeted me and I thought to myself that’s going to be probably the only nice thing that would happen to me for this flight. The plane looked old, I guess nearly same age as me but I see it as a middle aged British Lady. As we stepped into it we were directed to the upper deck and my seat was just behind the pilot cabin. Almost noon and we lift off; I was still a bit nervous and even more when I saw the deep blue sea. But some champagne soon cooled me off :) I never knew the flight would be so long and boring. I watched almost all the movies the first half of it and spent the next 6 hours of the trip getting bored.
Almost 21hrs local time when we landed in Heathrow, we rushed through immigration and luggage and went to the parking lot. There were lots of people waiting out there; I guess they had relatives coming from Mauritius. The only person waiting for us was a taxi driver with a large orange card. Amazingly he was waiting for us since half an hour only as he checked the flight details on the net before coming to pick us up. As he was driving us through the 2 and a half hour trip to Birmingham, I thought about my journey and saw me doing nothing else than travelling. The trip was never ending and I was more than sleepy. Finally we reached Birmingham near midnight and our driver could not find the way to our hotel. Hopefully though we managed to check in and went straight to bed. In my mind it was still 3 a.m and I badly needed some sleep.
